There are a multitude of specs and parameters to take into consideration when buying for example a brand new or refurbished Optoma DLP Projector. We will learn about two important yet easy parameters in this post; they are projector panel type (LCD or DLP) and brightness. By learning about these two things, you will be better equipped to choose the best projector for your purposes.
Â
Choosing The Right Brightness
One of the most fundamental projector qualities is it’s brightness. This parameter interacts the most with your projection location, thus the location should be a major consideration in your projector choice and determining the amount of lumens (units of brightness) needed. In addition to light and lumens, adjustability plays an important role for portable projectors. If you are willing to spend more money, you can usually get more lumens or brightness in a projector. Here’s a breakdown of the ANSI luminosity levels and their standard usage, but keep in mind it’s all up to you to choose which would be best.
Â
• 3000 ANSI lumens or more. These are really bright projectors suitable for use in very large venues or even outdoors. High lumen projectors also excell at greater distances and projecting larger screen sizes.
• 1800 to 3000 ANSI lumens. Good for large classrooms or lecture halls, also projectors in this range can be great for home theaters, movie DVD and HD viewing.
• 1000 to 1800 ANSI Lumens are generally fine for basic business presentations and meetings in darkened rooms, simple graphics, general entertainment and games.

Technology Type (LCD or DLP)
The main projector types are LCD and DLP. LCD is currently used more widely now. Most LCD projectors like the LCD Sanyo Projector use liquid crystal panels, and may cost a little less than DLP panels on average. Projectors that use LCD panel technology are also known to have deeper color saturation and generally seem to be capable of greater brightness levels. Looking at the actual specs with the strengths and weaknesses of the LCD panel when choosing a projector can prove very useful.
DLP projectors can be in the similar price range but are often capable of greater contrasts with darker blacks than the LCD. DLP is also known to give a more film like experience and thus is very popular for home theater or cinema use. Some say DLP is more durable when it comes to long-lasting performance compared to the standard LCD. Be sure to view some of the actual specifications of a typical DLP unit like the BenQ DLP Projector to see how the specs you just learned about add up in actual projector models.
